Requirements & frequency
It depends on the environment: every 3 months on construction sites, every 6 months in factories, workshops and healthcare, every 6–12 months in commercial kitchens and warehousing, and every 12 months in offices, retail, schools and childcare. AS/NZS 3760:2022 sets these intervals based on how harsh the operating conditions are.
Mixed sites (an office with a commercial kitchen, a school with a workshop) need different intervals per area — PlanetSafe maps and tracks each area separately.
WHS regulations require businesses to ensure electrical equipment is safe; testing to AS/NZS 3760 is the recognised way to demonstrate this. On construction and demolition sites, testing and tagging is explicitly mandatory.
Elsewhere, it functions as your evidence of due diligence — the record an inspector, insurer or court asks for after an incident.
It’s the Australian and New Zealand standard for in-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment — the document that defines what gets tested, how, how often, and what the tag and records must show.

Not electrically, before first use — but it must be visually inspected and should be tagged “new to service” with a retest date so it enters the testing cycle.

In each case, the question is “show us your maintenance records,” and the cost of not having them vastly exceeds the cost of testing.

PlanetSafe’s published pricing: $3.50 per tag (1–50 items), $3.20 (51–300), $2.70 (301–1,000), $2.10 (1,000+), all ex GST, plus a $120 service fee per visit. No travel fees anywhere in Australia.
As a market guide, Australian providers typically range from around $1 to $5+ per tag depending on volume, location and what’s actually included — individual asset records and retest tracking are where low quotes usually cut.

The service
Anything with a plug that’s used in the workplace: kettles, microwaves, computers, monitors, chargers, extension leads, power boards, power tools, cleaning equipment, fridges, heaters, fans.
Extension leads and power boards are the most commonly failed items — and the most commonly forgotten.
Roughly 25–40 items per technician-hour depending on access. A 200-item site is typically a half-day.

It’s tagged FAIL, reported to your site contact immediately, removed from service, and listed in your report with the reason.
Repair or replacement is available as an optional service.
Testing to AS/NZS 3760 must be done by a “competent person” — trained and equipped for the task, which doesn’t require an electrician’s licence for standard test and tag.
PlanetSafe technicians are trained, credentialed (White Card, WWCC, police check) and insured. RCD replacement and electrical repairs, by contrast, do require a licensed electrician.
Reporting & records
A PDF compliance certificate plus a full asset register: every item individually identified with pass/fail result, test date and next retest date, grouped by site/building/centre. Delivered within 24 hours of the visit.
At minimum until the item’s next test, but keeping the full history is best practice — auditors and insurers sometimes ask for more than the latest cycle.
