What does emergency lighting testing involve?
Every six months, each emergency and exit light must be tested under simulated power failure for its full rated duration — typically 90 minutes — to prove the battery can sustain the fitting for an evacuation.
Fittings that fail to last the duration are recorded as failed and flagged for battery or fitting replacement. Every fitting is recorded individually: location, type, duration achieved, result, next test date.
